    Re: JON MFing JONES

No I dont think theres any way Rashad has success last night, if Jones fights like that and lands a couple big strikes early I dont think anyone will handle him because he has the wrestling to wear fighters out, I think him being on top the whole night really wore Shogun out. Rashad is going to be hurting because I see no advantage for him at all with Bones, not standing or on the ground.

    Re: JON MFing JONES

I meant could you see Rashad having success v. Shogun last night? Rua gassed really early with Jones laying on top and making him carry his weight, Rashad's a pretty good wrestler and he is a GREAT lay and prayer haha.

I keep hearing that Machida's style could hurt Jones, but I do not see it. Machida is 100% defense while Jones is all agression. Jones could take Machida down and pepper him with strikes from range since he can hit ya from another state ha. I think a guy like Anderson, with KO power and excellent strike defense (but if Jones can close distance and take Silva down he KILLS him) or a style like Rampage. Great takedown defense, sturdy boxing and good power might give him trouble but I dont see anybody right now really beating him down.

Anything can happen, no doubt, but Jones presents such an extreme matchup nightmare for ANYBODY. Are you a great striker with power? He will use his reach with long strikes then take you down and pound your face. Are you a great grappler with nasty submissions? He will beat you down standing, then get in your guard and **** your face up haha

    Re: JON MFing JONES

I honestly dont know, I think Shogun wouldve been much more aggresive against Rashad than he was against Jones you could tell the first couple minutes of the fight Shogun was trying to figure JJ out. The only way I can see somebody saying that about Machida is because he is really unorthodox and JJ wouldnt have really seen any style like that before but I dont see him getting anywhere. I think Jones could really keep Sliva at bay with his reach then maybe take him down but its hard to count out AS but I guess the big question here is do we think JJs wrestling is as good as Sonnens because if its equal or better I think he has the advantage and Rampage has plenty of power and that makes him a danger to anybody.

    Re: JON MFing JONES

I could see that, Rashad would not hold near the reach advantage and that would allow Shogun to get more comfortable early and find his range. I thought JJ throwing that flying knee to start the fight was absolutely BRILLIANT. It threw Shogun off and never let him get comfortable inside the Octagon. He had Shogun mind-****ed ten seconds into the fight.

Silva has the potential to land solid blows but Im not sure he can stay off his back. Sonnen is a good wrestler but I think Jones is in a whole different dimension with his wrestling, takedowns and top control. Sonnen is a very active guy who likes guard and has good takedowns. Jones has INCREDIBLE throws and trips to go along with takedowns and he is the much better overall grappler with his ground and pound (the best in MMA right now IMO, and its not close), his submission accumen and his excellent base (his base was the biggest thing in the Rua fight IMO. He was able to totally nullify anything Shogun tried to do off his back. He was able to use those long ass arms and legs to maintain a completely solid base throughout and kept Shogun from sweeping or escaping).

Rampage has that power but even I dont think he would be able to avoid the takedown or land consistently. Jones' reach would really fluster Rampage and his traditional 1-2 combos and NO footwork or head movement.

To be honest, the only person I can see matching Jones in athleticism and maybe being able to beat Jones is the headliner of next week's card, Phil Davis. Davis is more raw than Jones but he might be the only fighter who can dictate where the fight goes and put Jones on his back.

Jones/Davis will be the two best athletes in MMA history fighting.

    Re: JON MFing JONES

Jones had the best possible gameplan he couldve IMO and he followed it thru perfectly. Id have to agree about Davis he is a crazy athlete but I think theres a pretty big gap as far as being more polished and everytime Jones fights he looks better and better if Davis is going to get skilled enough to fight him and contend he is going to really have to improve fast

Thats a great point, they said before the fight that Jones is only a WHITE BELT in jiu jitsu. how freakin scary is that?? the sky is truly the ceiling with him.

but Davis is that same kind of insane athlete and he also improves exponentially with every fight. If Jones beats Rashad and Davis beats Lil Nog and one more opponent, I could see that fight developing in early 2012.

I would rather see A Jones/Silva Fight than a St Pierre/Silva Fights At this point in time. I think Jones would take him.

    Re: JON MFing JONES

I've never been one to elevate a mixed martial arts fighter too much in my mind. I've seen too many suppose P4P greatest and "unbeatable" champions get handled with ease by a guy who simply happens to possess the right skill-set to get the job done. I'm still firmly of that opinion of Silva. I see to many types of fighters who could beat him and in fact in Japan he proved that he was a bit of a quick-tapper if he gets in trouble.........Jones on the other hand might be the mold breaker. I think this might be the guy that I felt would eventually come along. A truly elite athlete with very difficult to contend with skill-set. Right now his people need to get his cardio even better and make sure he is very slick at getting back to his feet if he is ever put on his back. Those are the only question marks right now. He is going to get better, maybe a lot better. He might be the first truly long term dominate fighter in the sport.

    Re: JON MFing JONES

Well I dont agree with the quick tapper assessment of Silva, he took an absolute beating from Sonnen and never gave up and came back for the win, but I agree on Jones.

He is truly an elite athlete and that makes a huge difference. Shogun is a great fighter, but Jones proved that great athletes improve at a MUCH higher rate than normal fighters. His improvements striking from the Bonnar fight to Saturday was almost exponential.

And yeah, if Jones develops a nasty bottom game he could be the best. I dont think anyone outside of Phil Davis can hold him down, so I dunno how much he really needs a bottom game lol but thats the biggest hole in his game IMO. He has great striking with taht incredible reach, the best trips and takedowns in MMA IMO to go with maybe the best ground and pound in MMA and absolutely SMOTHERING top control.

I never thought I would say this, but Jones' top control>Arona
